About the Author
John Murtagh, AM, is Executive Director, Education at the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and Adjunct Professor of General Practice at the Department of Community Medicine and General Practice , Monash University, Victoria, Australia. He is one of Australia's leading GPs and community educators. A Professor in General Practice in the School of Primary Health Care at Monash University in Melbourne, Professorial Fellow in the Department of General Practice at the University of Melbourne and Adjunct Clinical Professor in the Graduate School of Medicine at the University of Notre Dame, Fremantle.

Wonderful pocket guide for FP & Primary care providers & students

I own a multitude of clinical books and guides on Family Practice and Primary care. While some U.S. based providers may be concerned that it is written by a provider in Australia, it is highly useful in the U.S. medical setting as well (quite frankly, UK, Australian, and other Foreign GP's provide a deeper level of care than their U.S. counterparts, so Murtagh's books actually offer more...)
My most valuable resources (those I "go to" most often and which have provided the most wealth of knowledge, skill and technique for me while doing my FP rotations..) have been the "In a Page" guides by Kahan In A Page Medicine (In a Page Series) I own all of them, and my Murtagh's General Practice John Murtagh's General Practice. I was thrilled to discover Murtagh's pocket guide aka "companion handbook".
This little handbook will easily fit in a labcoat pocket and contains the most common subjects one may encounter in the primary care setting. The only thing that could make it better is if it were an app on my Android phone.
If you order this, know that mine came DHL from India (!), took about 10 days to arrive and required a signature for delivery. It has a plastic cover which hopefully will hold up, but otherwise seems of good quality.
If you are a Nurse Practitioner student, Physicians Assistant student, Intern or Resident doing Primary care or Family Practice rotations I highly recommend this pocket guide as well as the big text by Murtagh. They're easy to read, have practical, useful information & tips for the clinic setting that you'll actually value and use. Also pick up the "in a page" books for quick summaries of most anything you'll see in the varied settings (Medicine, OB, Pedi, etc). These will all continue to be ready references for me while I'm in practice.

This book has not satisfied my need. It did not cover all the subjects facing the GP. Is not written according to the body org
